Discussion points for Midwinter

  • Has anyone incorporated any of these discovery tools? What has your experience been?
  • Do you think it's more successful to have users to go to a discovery tool (e.g. LibraryThing) or have it come to them (e.g. Facebook apps?)
  • I'm especially interested in knowing if anyone's using WorldCat without connecting it to their OPAC, as is done with WorldCat Local. We'd love to divorce our ILS, but can't without an alternative. Can WorldCat alone be our discovery tool?
  • How do libraries choose which tool to use?  What are our users more likely to embrace?
  • Should discovery tools always include delivery?
  • What about the idea of having personalised accounts? Could a discovery tool be set up for an individual user?
